Adam Gautreau

Adam Chalmers Gautreau was born on September 10, 1984, to Beren (Bobbi) Chalmers. Adam was deeply loved by his mother. So much so that when she found herself unable to provide the life that she wished her son to have, she gave him up for adoption to her sister and brother-in-law. Tony and Marlowe (Chalmers) Gautreau welcomed Adam into their young family when he was two years old. Adam joined sisters, Jessamy and Katie and brother, Josh. Bobbi later had two more children, Adam’s biological sister Courtney Ivy and brother Jake Chalmers.

Adam grew up in New Ipswich, NH. As a child, he was often found tagging along with his brother Josh. His Dad coached his little league team and took them on fishing and camping trips. Adam can be remembered by his mischievous grin and an affinity for anything daring and fast. He loved riding his bike and roller blades, which he eventually turned in for a snowboard as he grew older. This mischievous grin from childhood turned into the glowing smile that his family and friends will forever remember. Adam was a tinkerer. He often took mechanical items apart to see how they worked and would try to put them back together again. Known for his intrepid spirit, Adam was a friend to many and the life of the party. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor and adventure.

When Adam was 16, he met the Garner family. Nick and Tiffany, along with their children Shana, Nicky, Jessica, and Rebecca grew to consider Adam a part of their family as well. In 2009, Adam and Shana gave birth to their son Kaden. Adam has lived with the Garner family at various points over the past nearly two decades. He followed the family to Dallas, Texas to be close to his son.

This multifaceted network makes up Adam’s family. The one he was given, the one that chose him, and the one that he chose for himself. He loved them all, and they loved him. Each facet equally feels that he belongs to them. Adam’s path in life was bumpy. In the darkest of times, these are among the ones that he would call on, those that would be praying for him. In the best times, this is who was rooting him on. Adam also gathered countless friends throughout his life. He was known and loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Adam died on November 14, 2020. He was killed by a man who, over a period of two weeks, violently killed three other innocent victims and injured numerous others. Adam’s death was unprovoked, senseless, and shocking. Adam’s family is comforted by the fact that he is now at peace and are praying for all of the families affected by this tragedy. Adam will rejoin his family that has gone before him. He will be dearly remembered and loved by those that remain.

There will be a graveside service to lay Adam to rest on Friday, November 27, 11:00am at the New Ipswich Center Cemetery. He will be buried together with his biological mother, Bobbi Chalmers and alongside his sister, Jessamy Gautreau. There will be a brief service and a time for sharing memories of Adam. All are welcome, please wear a mask and be respectful of the social distancing guidelines.
