Alan M. McKenzie, Sr., 68, was born on November 3, 1947. He grew up on Boston Post Road in Marlboro, Massachusetts where many of his family and friends still reside. He was no stranger to hard work, including farming, automobile servicing, operating heavy equipment and driving truck, recently having retired from Park construction. Alan migrated North and has spent the last 20 years in Fitzwilliam, NH with his daughters in arm’s reach.
Alan was an avid collector of recycled, re-purposed and antique items which he found great adventure and joy collecting. In his younger years, Alan was full of energy and unpredictable and as he aged (gracefully) he enjoyed a simple life just being outside with his dogs and was brought much joy being the center of his grandchildren’s days.
Alan is survived by his children, Alan McKenzie, Jr., of Keene NH, Kevin & Erin (McKenzie) Anderson of Fitzwilliam, NH and David and Shannon (McKenzie) Strong of Fitzwilliam, NH; his grandchildren, Alan (Mikey) McKenzie, III of Virginia, Chloe & Brady Anderson and McKenzie Strong from Fitzwilliam, NH; his sister Kim & Jeanie White from Unity, NH and Brother Randy & Michelle Christmas of Jaffrey, NH. Alan is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews in NH and Massachusetts. Alan was predeceased by his mother, Rose Hartley Christmas and his brother Bobby Hoey. Alan is also predeceased by the mothers of his children, Donna (Bowser) McKenzie and Cheryl (Bent) McKenzie.
Alan was surrounded by family as he passed in Keene NH on April 20, 2016. His wishes were to be remembered the way he was when he was alive, so there will be a celebration of life at his residence at 152 Gap Mountain Road in Fitzwilliam on May 7th, 2016 beginning at 12:Noon.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Monadnock Humane Society.
