Albert G. Stratton

Jaffrey, New Hampshire Albert G. Stratton, 78 of Jaffrey, NH and Phoenix, AZ died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Keene after a period of failing health. Mr. Stratton was born on May 14, 1933 in Peterborough, NH, son of the late Mark and Elvira (Smith) Stratton. While Mr. Stratton lived in Homestead, Florida, he worked for Northeast Airlines. Eventually, he moved north and began working in the field of Education. He was the director of admissions at Mt. Ida College in Newton Centre, MA and at Bryant & Stratton College. He became the Vice-President at New England Technical Institute in Providence, RI and was instrumental in growing the college from a 2-year program to a fully accredited 4-year program. Mr. Stratton founded the first computer college in Fall River, MA called C.E.C. and would travel all around New England making presentations to High School students and encouraging their attendance at ‘his’ schools. He will be remembered for his beautiful poetry for which he had received many accolades for through the years. Mr. Stratton enjoyed the challenges of computers and experimenting with photography. He also enjoyed researching his family and his genealogy records dated back many generations. He especially loved to travel and had toured the United States extensively. Mr. Stratton was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor in 1997 and by his brother Clarence who died when he was six months old. Mr. Stratton is survived by his lifelong friend and better half of over 12 years, Peggy Low of Jaffrey and Phoenix, AZ; his 5 sons, Mark Stratton of Rindge, NH, Stephen Stratton of West Chesterfield, Virginia, Thomas Stratton of North Andover, CT, Douglas Stratton of Fall River, MA, and Timothy Stratton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren; his 2 sisters, Vera Pomponio of Jaffrey, NH and Betty Affolter of Troy, Ohio; his brother Fred Stratton of Jaffrey, NH and many cousins and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made in Mr. Stratton’s name to the Crotched Mountain Foundation, One Verney Drive, Greenfield, NH 03047. At Mr. Stratton’s request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Cutter Cemetery on Harkness Road in Jaffrey Center. Rev.
