Alfred L. Whitney, 76, of Hancock, NH died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH after a long illness.
Al was born in Goffstown, NH on July 16, 1939, son of the late Henry C. and Jenny F. (Raymond) Whitney. He had been a resident of Peterborough, NH for 48 years before moving to Jaffrey. Al lived there for 7 years before moving to Hancock in 2015. While in Peterborough, Al was a member of the Peterborough Fire Department for 38 years and had also served as an EMT on the Peterborough Ambulance. He worked for many years at New Hampshire Ball Bearing before retiring and continuing to work part-time for Market Basket in Rindge, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He also enjoyed his puzzle books, listening to his scanners, and his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Kenneth Whitney.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara C. Whitney; his daughter Debra and her husband Jonathan; his daughter Karen and her husband Tom; three grandchildren, Dalton, Dylan, and Evan; his sisters Joanne Pelletier of Dover, NH and Marcia Whitney of Milford, NH; his brothers, Doug Whitney and his wife Gayle of Milford, NH; and George (Sonny) Raymond, Jr. of Nashua, NH; and several, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm in Upper Pine Hill Cemetery, Sand Hill Road, Peterborough. Burial will follow.
