AMY J. BROWN, 78 of Granite Circle in Dublin died suddenly Monday February 16, 2009 at the home of her sister in Falmouth MA.
She was born March 9, 1930 in Somerville MA daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys (Kennedy) Marshall. She grew up in Arlington MA and had graduated in 1947 from Arlington High School. She received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Boston University in 1949.
Amy has been a resident of Dublin since 1985 and had previously lived in Lexington, MA. While in Lexington she was an active member of the Hancock Congregational Church and a member of the Wayfarers of the church.
Amy had worked with the school lunch program at the Bowman Elementary School in Lexington, and had also worked for Scott Flowers in Arlington.
Since 1994 Amy has been the secretary / office manager for the United Church of Jaffrey and has served under various pastors and has seen the church through several transitions. She was a member of the church choir and was a very active member and past president of the Triple D. Amy served on or was involved in some way with almost every committee, board or activity at the church.
During her free time Amy enjoyed doing cross-word puzzles as well as sewing, knitting and cross-stitching. Before the death of her second husband she enjoyed square dancing and camping. Her love of travel, lead to a two-week tour of the highlands and islands of Scotland in hopes of tracing her family Roots. While in Scotland she attended the world-famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. She also enjoyed her yearly trips with her sister to Canada to visit their family members.
She was married to Frederick Jenkins who died in 1975. Her second husband Lester F. Brown died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter Marsha L. Hardacre of Windham, NH; two sons Matthew F Jenkins of Gardner, MA and Marshall S. Jenkins of Chelmsford MA; six grandchildren; a step-daughter Wendy Bridgewater of Waitsfield VT; a step-son Carl Brown of Bartlett NH; her sister Ellen S. Lewis of Falmouth MA and three nephews. Amy also leaves numerous cousins in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario.
Flowers will be accepted; however the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the United Church of Jaffrey, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Jaffrey, UCC, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey on Saturday February 28, 2009 at 2:00PM.
