Barbara J. Niemela

Barbara J. Niemela, 70, of Hernando, Florida and formerly of Jaffrey, NH, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at Woodland Terrace in Hernando.Barbara was born on August 26, 1936 in Winchendon, Massachusetts, the daughter of Harry and Corrine Lattrell. She had been spending the winter months in Florida since 1990 and then in 2005, she and her husband moved to Hernando. Barbara co-owned The Pack Rat consignment shop in Jaffrey with her friend June Edwards, then she became the sole owner for many years. She also enjoyed working with children while substitute teaching at the Sand Box preschool program at the United Church of Jaffrey. Later, she worked at the Monadnock Community Daycare Center in Jaffrey. Barbara was a member of the First Church of Jaffrey. She also belonged to the Jaffrey Womans Club and the Community League. In Florida, she had belonged to the Citrus Hills Womans Club. Barbara enjoyed tennis, golf and was an accomplished seamstress. Barbara is survived by her husband of 51 years, Alvah Niemela of Hernando, FL; her 2 sons, Mark Niemela and Kyle Niemela (and wife Stephanie) all of Jaffrey, NH; her daughter Allison Broadbent (and husband Richard) of Reading, PA; her 6 grandchildren, Nicholas of Keene, NH, Lauren, Rowan and Tate Niemela, all of Jaffrey, NH, and Emily and Sarah Broadbent, both of Reading, PA; her brother Harry Edward Lattrell of Winchendon, MA and many close friends.

Burial will take place in the spring at Cutter Cemetery in Jaffrey.

Friends and family are warmly invited to Calling Hours on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 2:00PM at the First Church of Jaffrey on Laban Ainsworth Road in Jaffrey Center. Rev. Deborah Hill, Pastor, will officiate.
