Bernadette A. Mei, 94, of Jaffrey, NH, died peacefully, Thursday January 3, 2013, at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough after a period of failing health. Bernadette was born in Jaffrey on January 8, 1918, daughter of the late Carl A. and Anna (McCabe) Butler. She attended schools in Jaffrey and was a lifelong resident of the community. Bernadette had worked for New England Telephone Telegraph Company and had been a waitress in several of the area restaurants. She considered her most important role as being there for her family. She loved caring and supporting her husband and children through their endeavors growing up, and then continued enjoying the time spent together throughout their lives. She particularly enjoyed shopping dining out, and her cat Stella. Bernadette and her husband had spent many of their winters in Ft. Myers, Florida from 1978 to 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julio Mei, on January 17, 2004, and by two sons, Ralph Morin and Kenneth Mei. She was also predeceased by her sister Gertrude Hannon; her two brothers, Donald Butler Sr., Carl Butler, Jr. and her half-brother, Robert Butler. Bernadette is survived by her two daughters, Julianna M. Getty and Maria M. Thoin, both of Jaffrey, NH; her son Anthony A. Mei of New York, NY; five grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; her two half-sisters, Catherine Butler of Jaffrey, NH and Elizabeth Butler of Alaska; her three half-brothers, Russell Butler and Richard Butler, both of Jaffrey, NH and Ronald Butler of Hillsborough, NH, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following calling hours on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
