Bernadette L. Goen

June 20, 1927 — April 23, 2022

Our family has lost a beloved mother, Bernadette Goen on April 23rd, 2022. Our matriarch passed away peacefully following a sudden illness and short stay at Good Shepherd/Jaffrey Rehabilitation Facility. Bernadette was born at home, in Greenville on June 20, 1927, she passed away shy of her 95th birthday. Prior to her sudden illness and declining health, she was comfortable and happy to be living in her home along with her son Christopher where she had spent her entire life on Baker Avenue in Greenville.

Bernadette worked as a telephone operator in Greenville many years ago. She spent decades, providing childcare in her home for dozens of local children. Now adults, they along with their parents lovingly visited and remained in touch with her throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by both parents Albert Fortin and Victorine (Caouette) Fortin. A cherished husband, Everett Ernest Goen, her two sisters Georgette Desmarais, and Genevieve (Mimi) Nolette. She also recently lost a grandson, Nathan Huszar.
Bernadette is survived by her five children Michael Goen and wife Bettie (Corliss) Goen, Linda (Huszar) Goen, Katherine (Belanger) Goen and husband Joseph Belanger, Andrew Goen and wife Tena (Blease) Goen, and Christopher Goen. She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly.

Bernadette attended Sacred Heart Parochial School in Greenville; she was a graduate at Appleton Academy in New Ipswich NH. She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Greenville. She was involved in fund-raising for the church bazaars and yard sales, and never missed frequent dinners and gatherings spent in the basement of the church.
She especially enjoyed spending time at her cottage on the lake surrounded by friends and family. She was an avid reader, loved a game of cards with friends and relatives on a Saturday night, never missed a Red Sox game, loved a cold Budweiser, was a master cook in the kitchen, was passionate of the outdoors and her many pet dogs, cats and birds. She was known locally for her open house hosting coffee and goodies where neighbors and cousins would gather weekly. She and her husband Everett participated in the NYC Fresh Air Program, bringing young children from New York City into their home who enjoyed the lifelong memories gained from summers in NH.

Her family and many friends knew her as a loving, optimistic, kind soul. She will be remembered by all for her love of a good debate, especially when she was on the winning side. She was genuine to a fault, and sugar coated nothing. She was known for her great sense of humor, optimism and appreciation in each blessed day of her long and happy life.
We will miss her love, her guidance and her gracious wisdom.

Family and friends are invited to share in a final goodbye to Bernadette at a mass located at Sacred Heart Church in Greenville to be celebrated on June 16th at 11:00 am. Followed by a luncheon and fellowship gathering at the basement of the church.

In lieu of flowers Bernadette's family respectfully asks that any remembrance contribution be made to the Fuel Fund, Sacred Heart Church, 15 High Street Greenville NH 03048
