C. Gordon Auth, 79, of Hancock, NH, died peacefully at his home on Friday January 3, 2014 after a brief period of failing health.
Gordon was born on May 25, 1934 in Long Island, NY, son of the late Charles G. and Agnes L. (O’Connor) Auth. Gordon was a 1951 graduate of LaSalle Military Academy and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
In 1955, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and honorably served our country both overseas in Japan and at home in the reserves until 1969. On May 23, 1959, Gordon married the love of his life, Mary Ann Demarest, in Oradell, NJ and they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage together. They lived on Long Island, NY for 49 years before moving to Hancock in 1983.
He owned and operated Auth Electric Co in Long Island, NY until he retired in 1979. When he moved to Hancock, Gordon became the chairman of the Finance Council, a position he gladly served the Divine Mercy Parish in for over 28 years. He also served the parish in other capacities along with coordinating and providing rides for countless seniors and disabled members of the community with the American Red Cross for over 20 years. One of his favorite interests was providing assistance with the Cambodian and Bosnian refugee re-settlement. In his spare time, Gordon enjoyed boating and photography, and always loved spending time with his family.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann of Hancock, NH; his 3 daughters, Marie Cunnion of Mundelein, IL, Mary McMahon of Old Lyme, CT, and Margaret Auth of Hancock, NH; his 2 sons, Charles Auth of Henniker, NH and Daniel Auth of Greenfield, NH; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his sister, Jerilyn Magg of Sanibel Island, FL; his brother Ronald Auth of Westlake Village, CA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Friends and family are warmly invited to calling hours on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Saint Peter's Church of the Divine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine Street, Peterborough on Wednesday January 8, 2014. Rev. Msgr. Gerald R. Belanger, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Mr. Auth respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Divine Mercy Parish for the Parish Outreach Program, 18 Vine Street, Peterborough, NH 03458.
