Calvin E. Nelson, 81, of Rindge, NH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born on October 26, 1943, in Paterson City, NJ, he was the son of the late Merrill and Jessie (Fletcher) Nelson. Cal graduated from Wayne High School in NJ, where he was a member of the track team.
Following his education, he served honorably in the United States Army. After his service he pursued a career as a master electrician, working for many years as Teleflex in Jaffrey NH, then worked for himself in the Monadnock area until he retired.
Cal had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golf and bocce, which he often played with friends and family. A proud member of the American Legion, he valued the friendships and connections he built there and at the Jaffrey VFW.
He was proud of his Scottish heritage, enjoyed saunas with the "Clancey Brothers" playing. He loved his dogs including his "hunting dog"
In addition to his parents Cal is predeceased by his brother Bob Nelson of Maine.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary (Champney) Nelson of Rindge; his son, lan Nelson and his wife Jess of Dublin, NH; his step-daughter, Carol Redlich and her husband Carl of Rindge, NH; his 2 step-sons, Matthew Smith and his wife Tammy of New Ipswich, NH, and Daniel Smith and his wife Donna of Fitzwilliam. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey, Alysha, Ryan, Brianna, Amanda, Danny, Brandon, Eli, Simon and Emma, his sister-in-law, Sharon Nelson of Maine, his niece Maryanne, and nephews Michael and Todd.
A celebration of life will be on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
