Charles 'Herbie' Munroe

Charles Herbie Munroe, 69, died peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his home in Jaffrey.

He was born in Boston, MA on August 25, 1940, son of the late Robert Munroe and Helen (Morgan) Munroe Dixon. Herbie was a 1959 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth Landing, MA. He had previously lived inBrighton and Quincy, MA and in Fontana, CA before moving to Nashua and Jaffrey, NH.

Herbie served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1969. His tours of duty included the countries of Labrador, Tripoli, Okinawa, and Libya.

He married Carol Gentry on February 7, 1964 and together they raised a beautiful family. While living in Oklahoma, Herbie belonged to the Hill-Hewitt American Legion Post #260.

After serving his country in the armed services, Herbie began working for Sanders Associates, a defense contractor in Nashua, NH which is now part of BAE Systems Electronics Integrated Solutions. He had worked at the Nashua facility for over 30 years and only retired just recently.


Herbie was affectionately known as Papa and loved every minute he spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed music and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Herbie was also preceded in death by his step-father Edward Dixon.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Carol (Gentry) Munroe of Jaffrey, NH and Las Vegas, NV; his two daughters; Mary Munroe and her partner Dodie Rutledge of New Ipswich, NH and Wendy and her husband Andy Neave of Las Vegas, NV; his two sons; Ed and his wife Jenn Munroe of Nashua, NH and Charlie and his wife Tammy Munroe of Jaffrey, NH; his six grandchildren; Emma-Lee, Jacob, Hayley and Molly Munroe of Jaffrey, NH and Olivia and Sophi Murphy of New Ipswich, NH; his two sisters; Claire Burke of North Fort Myers, FL and Mary Ellen and her husband Bob Kennerson of Alton Bay, NH and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held for Herbie on Saturday May 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Light Of the World Church, 273 Elm Street, Milford, NH 03055
