Christopher Ernest Ernie Harling, 81, of Temple died Tuesday March 30, 2010 at his home while surrounded by the love of his family
He was born in Boston, Mass. on January 29, 1929, the son of the late Bertram and Mary [Rodriguez] Harling.
He served his country in the U.S. Army 31st Field Artillery in WWII.
Ernie had been a mechanic in Westwood, Mass. before moving to NH where he worked for his brother as a carpenter.
He was a member of Bethel Souhegan Masonic Lodge #24 of New Ipswich, and a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Greenville. Ernie served on the Temple Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years and as a Deputy Fire Warden. He served as President of the Ex-Serviceman\'s Club of Temple in the 60s, was a past member of the Lions Club and a member of the Temple Militia in 1975-76.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Willard) Harling of Temple, his son Steven and his wife Debra of Temple, his three daughters, Susan and her husband Richard Trempe of Jaffrey, Mary and her husband Joe Jasinski of Southampton, MA of Jennifer and her husband Lester Rheaume of Temple; his six grandchildren, Valerie, Derrek, Olivia, Michelle, Steven, and Devin; his two brothers, George Harling of Bradford, NH and John Harling of Deland, Florida; his sister-in-laws Nancy and her husband Stan Rogowsky of Roanoke, VA and Julie Harling of Conway, SC and many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Temple Volunteer Fire Department, Post Office Box 80, Temple, NH 03084, or to Hospice at HCS, Post Office Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on April 17th 2010 at 11:00 AM at Miller Cemetery in Temple. Rev. Graham Ward, Interim Pastor of the Temple Congregational Church will officiate.
