Crystal M. Horwitz

Crystal Martin Horwitz, 73, of Sunset Beach, NC, passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 28, 2016 in Keene, NH.

Born in Williamsport, PA on January 29, 1943, the daughter of Dr. Warfield A.B. and Dorothy Moore Martin. Raised in Milton, PA and spending memorable summers on Makoma Lake, she made her hometown proud by being crowned Miss Pennsylvania of 1962. While attending the University of Rochester, with a major in German and minor in Chemistry, she met the love of her life and they married in 1965, following her graduation.

Crys pursued her RN after three children at Ona M. Wilcox School of Nursing. Before retiring to North Carolina, she enjoyed traveling immensely and took many trips, including European tours with each of her children. In retirement, Ted and Crys built their dream home, naming it Tee & Sea, where she enjoyed her Carolina home, shelling, gardening, and volunteering at the Sea Turtle rescue.

Crys was predeceased by her son Teddy and her husband of almost 50 years, Theodore Herman.

She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Reina Horwitz Selby, husband Stephen, granddaughters, Sara and Anna; Anya Horwitz Lyons, husband Patrick and grandchildren, Jack and Grace; granddaughter Alexandra Horwitz and her parents, daughter-in-law, Cindy Horwitz and Danny Sullivan; sister Pamela Racow, husband Bill, nephew Adam Racow, wife Lessa and grandnephew Parker; brother-in-law Richard W. Horwitz, wife Sandra and nephew and nieces, Marc Horwitz, wife Lisa, Stacey Horwitz and Ann Cox

Services: In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal services held. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be welcomed at http://www.hcsservices.org/ways-to-give/ , the Hospice unit that cared for Crys with compassion and dignity, or the American Cancer Society.
