Doris M. LaFortune

Doris M. LaFortune, 87, formerly of Jaffrey, died unexpectedly Monday August 20, 2012 at the Victorian Heights Assisted Living Center in Portsmouth. She was born July 17, 1925 in Jaffrey, daughter of the late Albert and Corinne (Butler) Ellis. She was a 1943 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey. She married Leon R. LaFortune on September 11, 1944. Mrs. LaFortune has been a resident of Portsmouth for the past 39 years and previously had lived in Jaffrey and Suncook. She retired in 1973 as an assistant manager for Fanny Farmer at the Fox Run Mall location; previously she had worked as a telephone operator for New England Tel Tel, a typist at D.D. Bean Sons Co in Jaffrey as well as the American Guernsey Cattle Club in Peterborough, and was a hostess at the China Dragon Restaurant and Motor Inn in Hooksett. She enjoyed reading, knitting, bowling and spending time with family. Survivors include her two daughters Judith Marini and her husband Richard of Bradenton FL, and Nancy LaFortune of Santa Fe, NM; her son Daniel P. LaFortune and his wife Cheri of Newmarket NH; her sister Marjorie Stewart of Jaffrey NH; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Leon, and her son James R. LaFortune. Burial will follow in the family in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for those who wish may be made to the American Heart Association, New Hampshire Affiliate, 2 Wall Street, Manchester NH 03101.
