Dorothy A. Smith

Dorothy A. Smith, 95, formerly of St. Louis, died peacefully Thursday June 21, 2012 at Good Shepherd Rehab Nursing Center, in Jaffrey NH. She was born February 28, 1917 in St. Louis MO, daughter of the late Lucien and Jennie (Farley) Brown. She had attended Normandy High School, and had been a resident of St. Louis until moving to Jaffrey in 2002. She was a life time member of the former Rob Morris Chapter #328, now known as Beacon Chapter #256 Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Smith enjoyed square dancing in her younger years. She was also an active Girl Scout and Brownie leader. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Vinita Park Methodist Church in St. Louis. Her husband of forty seven years, Garton J. Smith, died April 11, 1982. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Speidel and her husband Edward of Jaffrey; twelve grandchildren, Michael Speidel and wife Connie of Lincoln RI, Mark Speidel and wife Diana of Dover, NH, Matthew Speidel of Sturbridge MA, Monica Daigle and husband Bruce of Woonsocket RI, Maura Speidel of Grand Rapids MI, Melissa Huizinga and husband Jack of Walker MI, Melinda LaCount and husband Anthony of Wyoming MI, Melita Joiner and husband Terry of Franklin, KY, Mel Speidel and wife Kathy of Nashua, NH, Mal Speidel and wife Cathy of Milton NH, Marn Speidel and wife Allison of Barrington NH, Martin Speidel of Dover, NH; twenty three great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her step sister Marie Petri of St. Louis

Burial will be in the family lot in Lake Charles Memorial Park, St. Louis, MO at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions for those who wish, be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, Burn Unit, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114

At the family's request, funeral services will be held in private.
