Dr. Joseph Tony Gosling, D.D.S., 77 of Old New Ipswich Road in Rindge died Tuesday March 9, 2010 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a period of failing health.
He was born June 6, 1932 in Bronxville New York, son of the late Woodley Brower and Marion (Fitch) Gosling.
He had attended Harvey School in Katonah, NY, was a member of the graduating class of 1950 at Kent School in Kent, CT., majored in Psychology at Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine and received his doctorate degree in dentistry from McGill University in Montreal Canada.
While at Kent School he rowed crew at the Henley Regatta, Henley England in 1950. He was awarded the Bishops Oar and also on the crew that won the Thames Challenge Cup Medal.
Dr. Gosling served with the United States Navy as a Radio Operator First Class aboard the USS Albatross.
Dr. Gosling had owned his private practice in General Dentistry and Oral Surgery for twenty two years in Stamford and New Canaan, CT. He was a participating dentist at Bridgeport School of Dental Hygiene and was an instructor of Dental Materials for the Stamford Wright Technical School. He had also practiced briefly in Jaffrey with Dr. David Knight.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, Royal Canadian College of Dental Surgeons and the Connecticut State Dental Association. He had served on the Executive Committee of the Stamford Dental Society, the Executive Committee of Western Fairfield County Dental Society and also was co-chairman for founding of the Stamford Hospital Dental Clinic.
Dr. Gosling enjoyed restoring and driving his 1932 Model A and his 1927 Model T.
He was a member of Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association and had built an experimental Kit Fox seaplane. He also belonged to the International Order of Characters.
Tony was a Staff member from 1974 until 1978 at Camp Wabun Limited a wilderness canoeing camp for boys in Temagami Ontario, Canada.
Tony has been a resident of Rindge since 1986. He was past president of the Rindge Historical Society, and a member of the Rindge Planning Board. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his Mini Farm with his vegetable garden, sheep, pigs, chickens, geese and ducks. He also looked forward to maple syrup season.
He is survived by his wife of thirty seven years Marjorie Comstock Midge Gosling of Rindge; two daughters Patricia Ann Gosling of Zurich Switzerland, and Linda Gosling Pinkerton of Grapevine, Texas; a son William Cullen Gosling of Branford CT; two grandchildren Chase Pinkerton and Taylor Pinkerton both of Texas; his twin brother Woodley Brower Gosling of Orinda CA; six nieces and nephews; and his special friend and faithful companion Penny the Springer Saniel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Pines, Hale Hill Road, Rindge, NH 03461.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held on WednesdayAugust 4, 2010 at 2:00PM at the Catherdral of the Pines, Hale Hill Road in Rindge.
