Elizabeth (Libby) Rene Somero, of New Ipswich, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough surrounded by her family.
Elizabeth Somero was born in Harford, NY to Noland and Ziona Smith. She attended school in Dryden, NY and then worked as a secretary at Baker Lumber in Dryden. She married Leonard Somero on June 5, 1955 in Dryden.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, and her guardian, Aunt Catherine (Rene), and Aunt Jenny Westlake of Dryden, NY.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Leonard of 61 years, her 3 sons Brian, Roger and Cathy, and Kevin and Nancy, daughter Colleen and John Ruotsala, all of New Ipswich, her brother Noland Smith of San Diego, CA, sister Vivian and Don Lawson of Harford, NY, grandchildren Seija (Timothy) Boyle, Sean, Kaylee, Peter (Melodie), Reuben (Meghan), Craig, Angela, and Tyler Somero, Ryan, Gary (Melissa), and Bruce Ruotsala, and great-grandchildren Kaija Somero, Linnea Somero, and Joshua and Waylon Ruotsala.
Elizabeth was an avid reader and letter writer. She enjoyed baking and entertaining guests. Holidays and vacations were spent visiting with family and friends in New York. Family was her greatest pleasure. Elizabeth quietly lived out her faith and devotedly served her husband and raised her children. She always took the greatest pleasure in her family’s interests and activities. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
Calling hours will be held at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 117 Goen Road in New Ipswich, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be Wednesday, June 29, at 11:00 AM in the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery, New Ipswich.
