Elizabeth “Liz” B. Overman, 80, died on September 10, 2015, at RiverMead in Peterborough. Liz was born in Morristown, New Jersey, on February 11, 1935, daughter of Robert and Ruth (Toms) Beckwith; she had an older brother, Robert, and many cousins and close family friends who were part of her happy childhood. She attended Morristown public schools, and went on to further her education at Elon College in North Carolina. Upon graduation, she became an elementary school teacher in Danville, Virginia, where she met her future husband, Frank S. Overman, Jr. They were married in 1957, and started their family, eventually growing to four children. Frank’s job took them from Greensboro, North Carolina to Virginia Beach, Virginia, then to Holliston, Massachusetts, and finally, to Rye, New Hampshire, where they “retired” to a large old colonial which they lovingly restored. Along the way, Liz raised her children, was a teacher and director at a daycare center, and eventually worked in Agent Contracting at Sun Life in Massachusetts. Upon Frank’s death in 1999, Liz remained in her home in Rye, where she took care of her many pets, including rescue animals, which was one of her passions in life. Liz also enjoyed walking, biking, skiing, reading, cooking, shopping, listening to music (especially Billy Joel!) and knitting – she created the most beautiful sweaters and scarves imaginable. Liz finally decided to make the move to RiverMead in Peterborough to be closer to family, where she resided for the past year.
Liz leaves behind four children and their families: daughter Ellen Stiefel and son-in-law Brian, of Peterborough, and their five children: Megan, Michael, Joey, David, and Adam; daughter Joann Savino and son-in-law Mark, of Stow, Massachusetts, and their three children: Robert, Katie, and Gwen; son Robert Overman and daughter-in-law Cynthia of Acton, Massachusetts, and their two children, Nate and Matthew; and daughter Susan Lucas and son-in-law Leonard, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Liz recently became a great-grandmother, when her granddaughter Megan and her husband, Jason Goldsmith, gave birth to a baby girl, Lily, on August 5th.
Liz and her family were very thankful for the support and care of the entire RiverMead staff, especially the nurses, and the Hospice caregivers at HCS.
Services will be private. Donations in Liz’s memory can be made to: Granite State Sheltie Rescue, 30 Clark Road, Brookfield, NH, 03872.
