Ella Ruth Dale, 94 , formerly of Rindge, died peacefully Sunday July 11, 2010 at the Scott-Farrar Home in Peterborough, where she has been a resident since June 2008.\r\n
Ella was born in Redfield, NY, on February 18, 1916, daughter of the late Bradley and Ruth (Balcom) Taylor. When she was six weeks old her family moved to nearby Mexico, New York, where her father worked a large dairy farm.
Ella graduated from Oswego (NY) State Teachers College in 1936 and taught for two years in a one room schoolhouse in Howardville, NY. There were eight grades and she had a pupil in every grade.
After her marriage, she and her husband Stuart, moved to Hempstead, Long Island, NY, in 1938.
She taught third grade for twenty one years in Uniondale, Long Island, NY. She was made an honorary member of the New York State PTA.
She came to New Hampshire shortly after her retirement in 1971, settling in Rindge where she lived for many years.
In Rindge, Ella became active in many areas. She was a member of the Rindge Womens Club. She served the First Congregational Church of Rindge as treasurer for 16 years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Group, where she enjoyed working on church suppers and fairs. She was also a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. She loved to knit and play bridge.
Her husband of thirty eight years, Stuart W. Dale died in 1975.
She is survived by her son Allen S. Dale of Harborcreek, PA; four grandchildren Bonnie Janiuk of Harborcreek, PA, Carolyn Dale of Boston, MA, Carolee Crossmon of Enfield, NH, and David Crossmon of Walpole, NH; a great-granddaughter Taylor Janiuk of Harborcreek, PA.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Linda Crossmon of Keene in 2001.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rindge Congregational Church, the Cathedral of the Pines, or to the Scott-Farrar Home.
Burial will be at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, at a later date.
As per her request, there will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, Main Street in Rindge on Wednesday, July 28th, at 11:00 am.
