Ellen E. Somero, 82, of New Ipswich, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a very brief illness.
Mrs. Somero was born on July 12, 1931 in Fitchburg, MA, daughter of the late Ilmari and Alla (Gedenberg) Muhonen. She was raised in Greenville, NH and attended Greenville Schools and Appleton Academy. Mrs. Somero began training to be a nurse before marrying Leo J. Somero on October 28, 1950. Together they had 9 children.
Mrs. Somero always shared in celebrating life’s joyous events by sending birthday and other greeting cards to everyone in her family and extended family. She loved people and visiting, and was a very smiley person. Mrs. Somero liked knitting and made everyone near to her many colorful dish cloths. She liked to travel and was able to show her children the world outside of New Ipswich.
Mrs. Somero was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brothers Wilho and Edwin Muhonen, and by two of her grandchildren, Damon Bertram and Sonya Reini.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leo J. Somero of New Ipswich; her children and their families; David (Aila) Somero, Rachel (Edward) Estola, Karl (Julie) Somero, Martha (Dean) Bertram, and Carolyn (Colin) Kinnunen, all of New Ipswich, NH, Anita (Bruce) Reini of Rindge, NH, Glenda (LeRoy) Isaacson of Lake Norden, SD, Eileen (Jeff) Deakins of Sophia, NC, and Harvey Somero of Lantana, Fla. She had 61 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, a brother Walter (Sylvia) Muhonen, a sister-in-law Johanna Muhonen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 117 Goen Road, New Ipswich, NH 03071.
The funeral service for Mrs. Somero will also be held at the Apostolic Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 19, 2014. A graveside service and burial will follow in the family lot at Smithville Cemetery in New Ipswich.
