Elliot J.H. “Bud” Morrison, formerly of Jaffrey, NH, passed away July 12, 2012 after a period of failing health, in Queen Creek, Arizona where he made his home with his nephew and family. He was born on October 2, 1925 in Burlington, Vermont. Bud was the son of the late Mary and John Morrison. He attended grade school and North High School in Burlington as well as getting a degree in Special Education from Florida State University. Bud served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning home, he married Janice Lanpher on November 9, 1946. They started out their lives together in Burlington, VT where Bud worked at Edlunds Co. in Burlington where they made can, jar and bottle openers. He joined the Air National Guard and was called into service during the Korean Crisis in 1950 at which time Jan and their two boys moved to N. Hyde Park, VT to live with family. Upon his return in 1953 they moved to Mitchell AFB in Long Island, NY, then in 1958 to Plattsburgh, NY. Duty called again and Bud was sent to Puerto Rico in 1960 for 38 months. Once again a move was in the cards and in 1963 they all moved to Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio where they stayed until 1967 when Bud retired from the military after 24 years of faithful service to his country. From 1967 – 1970 they lived in Delaware, Ohio where Bud was a Jr. ROTC instructor at Rutherford B. Hayes High School. By 1970 they were ready to come back to New England to be close to family. They lived in Princeton, MA at Wachusett Meadows Audubon Sanctuary for 13 years where Bud was Property Manager. When it was time to really retire they settled in Jaffrey, NH. Bud wasn’t retired long but now could choose the jobs and hours he wanted to work. He worked at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in maintenance, was a Ranger at Monadnock State Park and in the winter worked in the cross country ski shop at Woodbound Inn. Still feeling a need to serve the public he was a bus driver for the special needs children and was an associate tutor for special needs children. Through fifteen moves and all these travels Bud served his country, made many good friends and became a part of every community. Bud’s final move was to Queen Creek, AZ in 2009 to live with and be lovingly cared for by his nephew William Morrison his wife April and their daughter Haley. He was a lifetime member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion, where he had worked his way up through Post, District and then State Department Commander. Bud was committed to doing whatever he could for Veterans and young people. He also served as Chaplain for the American Legion until moving to Arizona. Bud and Jan were members of the Forty and Eight. He was a member of Our Lady of Monadnock Knights of Columbus Council #8544, and also was a Color Corps member of St Patrick Assembly #2129 of the Knights of Columbus. He always had a strong sense of God, Family, and Country. He doted on his grandchildren and loved attending sporting events in which many nieces and nephews played. Bud loved his NY Giants and the Red Sox. The music of Jimmy Buffett and Willy Nelson were among his favorites. He will always be our Hero and the world is a far better place for having him in it. He is going to be missed dearly by his family and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his wife Jan on March 25, 2012 He is survived by his 2 sons, Michael E. Morrison and his wife Karen of North Brookfield, MA and John W. Morrison and his wife Bernita of Lowell, MA; 3 grandchildren, Sarah McKenna and her husband Michael, Anna, and Benjamin Morrison; 1 great grandson Aiden and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following calling hours on Saturday July 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow beside his wife Jan, in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey, NH.
