Eloy 'Rene' Bacallao

Eloy Rene Bacallao, Jr. 63, of Peterborough, died peacefully in his home on Monday September 23, 2013 after a short but courageous battle with bladder cancer. Rene passed with his long time partner Nancy Penniman and his sister at his side.

Rene was born in Havana, Cuba on October 30, 1949 the son of the late Eloy R. and Yolanda (Ortigosa) Bacallao. He was raised in Cuba and migrated to the United States when he was eleven. He graduated from Gainesville (FL) High School in 1968.

Rene moved to New Hampshire in 1996 and began working in the security department at the Elliott Hospital in Manchester. Recently, Rene worked in the Security Department at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough. Rene loved the personnel and patients he came in contact with at the hospital. The hospital’s caring consideration of Rene’s needs as he struggled with his illness has been awe-inspiring. His family will never be able to repay their kindness and generosity. Rene loved living in Peterborough, surrounded by so many wonderful outdoor activities. He enjoyed biking, hiking, camping and yard sales.

His son Paul and both of his parents predeceased Rene.
His son Nicholas Bacallao of Gainesville, FL survives him.
He is also survived by: Longtime companion, Nancy Penniman of Peterborough; his step-mother
Teresita T. Bacallao; his sisters Dixie Bacallao Tremblay, Maria T. Montana and Cristina Perez Resczenski; His nieces Katherine Tremblay and Cristina Resczenski Lerner and his nephews Paul F Tremblay, Jr. and James Resczenski. Nancy Penniman’s sons W. Talbot Penniman and Phillip E. Penniman

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service and celebration of Rene’s life will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2013, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord St., Peterborough NH 03458.
