Estelle Brunila Brown, resident of Peterborough, NH, passed away on March 6, 2017. She was born in Berkeley, California on January 10, 1920.
Her parents were the late Esther F Brunila and Lt Comdr. Nestor Brunila of the United States Coast Guard. Due to her father’s occupation, she lived in many different areas including California, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Canada. In all, she attended 11 different schools including one year at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and finally receiving her B.A. degree in Spanish at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
During World War II, she was employed in New Orleans, LA by the US government as a Spanish and French translator. After the war, her family moved to San Pedro, California where she was employed by Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. as a service representative and later as a services observer. It was during this time she met and married her husband, Dale R Brown and moved to San Francisco, CA. They were most happy when a daughter arrived and Estelle became a homemaker for a few years.
Due to her love of children, Estelle became a Director of the Country Mouse Pre-School for 4 years in San Jose, CA. Her husband, Dale was transferred by the RCA Corp. to Cherry Hill, NJ. So a new life found her becoming a Kelly Girl for various businesses and eventually becoming a Medicare biller for the Cherry Hill Medical Center in Cherry Hill, NJ and later the Medicare coordinator for the Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford, NJ.
Upon retirement, Estelle and her husband moved to Sedona AZ where they lived for 25 years. After the death of her husband, Estelle moved to Summerhill Assisted living in Peterborough NH to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
Estelle loved cats, traveling with her family, writing to her many pen pals, reading, and was an excellent cook.
She leaves behind her daughter, Kris Holmes and son-in law Lenny Holmes of Francestown, NH and her loving Summerhill family.
SERVICES: In accordance with Estelle’s wishes, there will be no formal services held. A memorial service in her honor will take place in April at Summerhill with a date and time to be announced.
