Ethel Margaret O’Mara, 86, of Tully Brook Road in Richmond died Saturday March 3, 2012 at her residence. She was born January 29, 1926 in Waltham MA., daughter of the late Anthony H. and Margaret (Coady) O’Neill. She was a 1944 graduate of Waltham High School. Mrs. O’Mara had worked as a secretary for St. Mary’s High School in Waltham, and she also worked for several churches and businesses in Waltham. She was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, in Waltham and Saint Mary Star of the Seas in Onset, MA., where the family had a home for many years. Her husband Paul B. O’Mara, who died August 10, 2006, was a Veteran of World War II and a Fireman for the City of Waltham for many years. Upon their retirement they moved to Onset and lived there for many years until Paul’s death. Ethel then came to live with her daughter Kathleen in Richmond. She attended the Latin Mass at Saint Benedict Center regularly until declining health prevented her from going outside the home. Ethel was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a meticulous homemaker whose limited career never interfered with her primary duties at home with her family. Survivors include her two daughters Kathleen M. Bersaw and her husband Douglas of Richmond, Susan M. Fosdick and her husband William of Marshfield MA; four granddaughters Siobhan M. and Peter Nadler, Sharon Rose and Daniel Bryan, Katherine M. Bersaw, Barbara L. Bersaw; four great grandchildren Dominic, Monica, Andrew and Martin Bryan; her brother Paul A. O’Neill of Waltham, MA; several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday March 9 at 10:45 AM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions, for those who wish may be made to Hospice at HCS, Post Office Box 564, Keene, NH 03431; or St. Benedict Center, 95 Fay Martin Road, Richmond, or to the Retired Municipal Employees of Waltham, 66 Miriam Road, Waltham, MA 02451.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey NH on Thursday from 12::00 Noon until 2:00 PM.
A Requiem Funeral Mass will follow at 3:30PM in the Chapel at St. Benedict Ceneter, 95 Fay Martin Road in Richmond.
