Everett G. Bennett

Everett Gardner Bennett, 91, formerly of Bennington, NH, died at his home in Jaffrey on Tuesday February 17, 2009 after a period of failing health.

Everett was born in Sutton, Vermont on December 4, 1917, son of the late Winfield S. and Hazel (LaDucer) Bennett. He attended Charlestown High School before joining the United States Army and faithfully serving his country during World War II. He had served in the European Theater in the 32nd Field Artillery Battalion and had received 2 Purple Hearts.

On November 16, 1946, Everett married Eleanor M. Paige. He had mastered many different trades working in the Bennington area and had retired after working for over 29 years at the Monadnock Paper Mill. He and his wife moved to Jaffrey in 2001.

Everett was an avid reader and enjoyed many, many books from the Jaffrey Library. Through the years he had enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping in and around the White Mountains. He also loved large family gatherings and the rule of thumb was always the more, the merrier

Everett was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Chestnut of Florida and by his oldest daughter Lorraine Marro of Jaffrey.

He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Eleanor M. Bennett of Jaffrey; their daughters Elaine Bonnell of Burton, SC, Deborah Noonan of Greenville, NH and Patti Reed of Davenport, FL; 9 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; his sister Theda Laclaire of Summerfield, FL and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, Everetts family has requested memorial contributions be made in his name to Hospice at HCS, PO Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458 in recognition of all of the wonderful care the entire staff and volunteers of Hospice provided for Everett. They also ask for memorial donations to be made to the Jaffrey Public Library, 38 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery in Bennington.

Family and friends are warmly invited to Calling Hours which will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Cournoyer Funeral Home Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey, NH from 5:00-7:00 PM.

A Memorial Service with full Military Honors will be held at the Bennington Congregational Church, on Main Street in Bennington, NH at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 27, 2009. Pastor Robert Ritchie will officiate.
