Frances Gloria Sweeney, 91, of Rindge, NH, formerly of Mashpee, Cape Cod, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on May 3rd 2017 in Rindge, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 12, 1925, in Cambridge, MA, the youngest of three children, to Wendel and Marguerite Gregware. She was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School and furthered her schooling at MIT during WWII with a degree in drafting.
She was married to Edward Stephen Sweeney in 1945 and together they raised three children; Janice, Stephen, and Lynda. The Sweeney family grew up in Westwood Mass and summered on Cape Cod. Throughout her life, Gloria was not only a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother, but an artist by trade. She participated in many art shows in the Cape Cod area with her daughter Janice. Gloria also donated her paintings to many of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) fundraisers in the Falmouth and New Hampshire events to help in the cure for Juvenile diabetes; a charity close to her heart.
She also loved golf, music, boating, horseback riding, and spending time with her family. She was a native of Massachusetts and retired on Cape Cod near her daughter Jan and son in law in Mashpee. She also spent much of her time with her daughter Lynda and son in law in Rindge, NH. They spent many years traveling together to visit family within the US, and also a special trip to Ireland.
She is survived by her daughters: Janice Ann Youlden and her husband Garrett Stewart Youlden of Falmouth, MA and Lynda Marie Hunt and her husband John Bankson Hunt of Rindge; a daughter – in-law: Diane Reid of Essex, CT ; seven grandchildren: Lauren, Kristin, Shauna, Katelyn, Brian, Jennifer and Whitney; eleven great grandchildren; as well as her sister: Jeanne Ann Tenggren, age 92 of Simi Valley, CA. She was predeceased by her husband: Edward Stephen Sweeny, Sr. who passed away in September of 2002; a son: Edward Stephen Sweeney, Jr., who passed in July of 2002; her brother: Wendel Gregware who passed away in 2006.
She was loved by everyone she met both on the Cape and in NH and will be dearly missed.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” at the Monadnock Inn, 379 Main St, Jaffrey, NH 03452, on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 1pm to 4pm.
