George Wellington Bates of Rindge, NH passed away at the age of 85, surrounded by his family on June 20, 2014. He was born on January 7, 1929 to Mary Mae Bushy and George William Bates in Dunham, Quebec, Canada. He was married to Pansay May Davis on June 16, 1951. He worked for many years in the plastic industry retiring from Avery Dennison, Fitchburg, MA, he was a Machine Technician.
He moved to Berkshire VT in 1954 as a hired hand on a dairy farm. He later purchased his own farm in Franklin, VT. He eventually moved the family to Clinton, MA in 1973 where he began his career in the plastics industry. Summers were spent camping with family and friends. You didn’t need to make an appointment to visit his home, you were always welcome and there was always a spot for you at the dinner table.
He was a very hard worker (sometimes having three jobs), devoted husband and father. He enjoyed making maple syrup, bee hunting, gardening, playing horseshoes and was an avid hunter and fisherman. George will long be remembered for his many stories, his incredible smile and always offering assistance to those in need.
He is survived by his Wife, Pansay Bates of Rindge, NH. Children, Barbara Ann & Paul Richmond of Enfield, NH; Gary Bates of Mansonville, Quebec; Steven & Donna Bates of North Miami, FL; Susan & Barry Mikels of Winchendon, MA; Joy & George Keller of Rutland, MA; Todd Bates of Troy, NH; Christopher Bates of Winchendon, MA and Steve Bates Jr. of Ashburnham, MA who was raised as one of his children; his beloved brother Carl & wife Noela of Enosburg, VT; 21 Grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and his very special Dog Suzie.
Please join his family on Friday June 27th at 11:00 am at The Advent Lutheran Church, 554 U.S. Route 202, Rindge, NH for a celebration of life service.
