Gerald D. Jerry Ricard, 75, of Turnpike Road in Jaffrey, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Wednesday September 3, 2008.
Jerry was born in Fitzwilliam, NH on December 28, 1932, son of the late Salmana P. and Ida May (Boise) Ricard. He was raised in Winchendon, MA by his aunt and uncle, Flora and Elmer Russel. He was a 1952 graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon where he was a captain of the football team. He continued to play semi-professional football after high school.
Jerry had served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion in Winchendon, MA.
He worked in various capacities for over 30 years at The Tack Shop, W. W. Cross, Co. in Jaffrey. He retired in 1994. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and spent his time making and repairing lamps and visiting friends at various locations around town. He most enjoyed the time he spent with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He was always very active in Jaffrey and had been a volunteer with the Jaffrey VFW Ambulance for several years. He was also dedicated to the youth in the community and served as a scout leader and constant supporter of Boy Scout Troop 33 in Jaffrey. His scouting spirit and leadership was highlighted when he earned the Wood Badge, scoutings premier training award. Jerry was also an avid collector of scouting memorabilia from around the world and his museum was enjoyed by countless scouters who visited the area.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish in Jaffrey and a member of Our Lady of Monadnock Knights of Columbus Council #8544.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pauline (Courchene) Ricard of Jaffrey whom he would have celebrated another anniversary with on September 14th.
He is also survived by his daughter Paula M. Mason and her husband Jonathan of Nashua, NH, and his son David Ricard and his wife Christina of Jaffrey; his 3 grandchildren, Rachel and Paul Ricard of Jaffrey and Hannah Mason of Nashua; his 2 sisters, Madeline Raymond of Florida and Millicent Mackowiak of Dudley, MA; his 2 brothers, Norman Record of Middleboro, MA, and Donald Inglis of Dennisport, MA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Ida Washburn, Flora Huleva, and Elizabeth Beaudry, and his brothers Kenneth Ricard and Salmana Record.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerrys name to Boy Scout Troop 33, 19 Highland Avenue, Jaffrey NH 03452.
Burial will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, September 5, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday September 6, 2008 at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev Wilfred H. Deschamps, pastor will officiate.
