Gerald “Ged” DeGrandpre, 84, of Jaffrey died Thursday July 14, 2016 in Keene following a brief illness.
He was born April 15, 1932 in Winchendon, MA, son of the late Arthur and Andrea (Letoile) DeGrandpre. A lifelong resident of Jaffrey, Ged graduated from Conant High School and had attended UNH before enlisting in the United States Army. Following his discharge he returned to UNH and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
During his youth he worked summers at the Monadnock State Park.
Ged had worked at various lending institutions in the Monadnock area. First with the Monadnock National and Savings Banks, then Winchendon Savings Bank, and eventually retiring as Senior Vice-President from the Peterborough Savings Bank.
Ged loved the outdoors and especially time spent at the “Fish Camp”. He enjoyed snow shoeing and has passed this love along to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years Juliette (Martin) DeGrandpre; three sons Martin, Paul and Stephen; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters Andrea “Mitzie” DeGrandpre and Collette DeGrandpre; a brother Charles DeGrandpre; nieces and nephews.
As per Ged’s request, there will be no formal services at this time.
Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to either the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Road, Swanzey NH 03446 or to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth Street, Concord NH 03301.
