Harry ‘Eddie’ MacKenzie, 90, of Squantum Road, Jaffrey died peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough while surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 23, 1924, in Concord, NH, son of the late Lyle B. and Laura (Kelley) MacKenzie. He attended schools in Northwood before serving his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He called Jaffrey his home for over 60 years.
Eddie retired at the age of sixty five, but he never stopped working. He was a member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion in Jaffrey and the Monadnock Oldies Car Club in Jaffrey.
Eddie enjoyed working on antique cars, having coffee with the boys and talking about old cars at Walter Pratt’s and the Kernel Bakery. He was a man about town socializing and enjoying conversation with the locals in the community. Eddie always loved giving a helping hand to anyone, and his love of dancing at Pelto’s got him through the cold winters.
Harry was predeceased by his wife Imy (Whitehead) MacKenzie on January 16, 2010 and his son Harry MacKenzie Jr. on August 6, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra Madden of Bristol, and son-in-law Mike of Jaffrey, NH and their two children, Nathan Madden of Swanzey and Julie Madden of Lebanon, NH; his son Freddie MacKenzie and companion Joyce Woods of Swanzey and children Freddie, Eddie and Susan; his daughter, Dorinda Louise of Alton, NH and her children Dianna and Marsha; his daughter Ellen Champney of Milford, NH and her children, Shawn Affeldt of Jaffrey and Dawn Stacey of Milford; his stepson Robert Jalbert and his wife Carolyn of Jaffrey and their children Megan Kivela and her husband Joshua of Acton, MA, and Kristen DelPaine and her husband Robert of Acton, MA and many great grandchildren and close friends;
Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202) Jaffrey.
Funeral Services will be held immediately following calling hours, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will follow with full military honors at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
