Helen Mercier, 98, of Greenville, NH died peacefully on August 8, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home surrounding by her loving nieces and good friend.
Helen was born on March 9, 1920 in Greenville NH, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Labelle) Desrosiers. She was raised and educated in Greenville, and attending Appleton Academy. On September 2, 1946 she married Herbert Nutting and together they lived in Charlotte NC. Upon Herbert’s untimely death, Helen returned to her family home in Greenville where she cared for her parents and welcomed the family to many outings and Memorial Day celebrations. In 1968 she married Eugene Mercier, moving to Leominster MA. She and Gene loved to travel, especially their trip to Europe, and spending time at their camp in Westminster where they would enjoy many family gatherings. With Gene’s passing she again returned to Greenville and later moved to Florida. While in Florida she loved to swim, golf, entertain and go dancing with her companion, John Wert. She cared for John until he lost his battle with cancer.
Helen worked as hairdresser while in NC. She was a secretary/bookkeeper for Greenville Auto for many years. She was a patient account assistant at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg until her retirement.
She was known to all as “Aunt Helen”. When you met her she would touch your heart with her warm and caring ways. She gave so much care to her family and anyone who needed it. Her true purpose of life was to care for others. In her later years, having all learned from her wonderful example of love and caring, she was loved and cared for by family, friends and especially her niece, Mary.
Helen was pre-deceased by her first husband, Herbert J. Nutting; her second husband, N. Eugene Mercier; and her companion John Wert. She was also pre-deceased by her brothers Emile, Charles and Henry Desrosiers and by her sisters Marie Beauchemin and Yvonne Bourgeois.
