Helen Stella Kemp

HELEN S. KEMP, 82, of Union Street, Peterborough died Thursday January 8, 2009 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a brief illness.

She was born December 23, 1926 in Keene, the daughter of the late Donald and Lauraette (Cutter) Sawtelle.
She was a 1944 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey. She had lived in Jaffrey until her marriage in 1948 when she then moved to Peterborough.

She was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed knitting and cross stitching for her grandchildren.
Helen enjoyed camping, playing bingo and snowmobiling. She was a charter member of the former Harrisville Hummers Snow Mobile Club.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Gordon L. Kemp of Peterborough; a daughter Nancy Bryant and her husband Steve of Peterborough; two sons Lawrence D. Kemp and his wife Monika of Dublin and David E. Kemp and his wife Edie of Jaffrey; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Burnham of Jaffrey and Stella S. Lundgren of Bradenton, FL; three brothers Donald K. Sawtelle of Jaffrey, Kenneth C. Sawtelle of New Ipswich and Arthur F. Sawtelle of Jaffrey; several nieces and nephews. Also her son-in-law James C. Schoch of Colorado Springs, Colorado

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Lyman K. Sawtelle in 1983, a daughter Susan J. Schoch in 2003; two grandsons Craig R. Lane in 1989 and Daniel L. Schoch in 1990; a nephew Cory A Sawtelle in 1989.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive Suite 110, Bedford NH 03110.

Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.
The family will greet friends from 10:00AM until the time of the service.

A Memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202S) in Jaffrey. Rev. Mary Lu Esposito of Rindge, will officiate.
