HOMER SPENCER ROY, 71, formerly of Fitzwilliam, died Sunday December 21, 2008 at his home in California Brook Estates in Swanzey NH.
He was born September 21, 1937 in Chelsea MA, son of the late Wilfred and Lucy (Michaud) Roy.
He attended schools in Winchendon MA and Sanford ME. While living in Winchendon, he would caddy at the Winchendon School Golf Club.
Homer was a United States Army veteran, having served from 1955 to 1959 in the Canine Division.
He worked at W.W. Cross Co in Jaffrey as a Tack Maker for more than forty years before retiring in 1998.
Homer enjoyed playing cribbage and was a member of the Jaffrey Cribbage Club. When his son was young he coached Little League Baseball, and he was a proud sponsor of the Monadnock Pony Club.
He was a person who gave back to the community, and would always put others before himself.
Homers positive attitude and generosity are what he will be remembered for.
He enjoyed his retirement with his wife of 49 years Janet (Clapp) Roy. He loved his family and leaves his three children Deborah Peterson and her husband Cris of North Brookfield, MA, Spencer Roy and his wife Tammy of Lyndeboro NH and Tracy Robbins and her husband Paul of Swanzey. His family extended to five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Homer was always looking to help others, especially those less fortunate and in need. He would buy groceries, pay a months mortgage payment, or buy heating oil so that someone could stay warm.
With this in mind the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either The Alice Poole Fund, P.O. Box 727 in Jaffrey or to the Fitzwilliam Fire and Rescue Department, 6 Church Street, Fitzwilliam NH 03447 or to any other local Community Funds.
Spring burial will be at the family lot in Hillside Cemetery, Goddard Road, Rindge.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday January 4, 2009 at 2:00PM in the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey.
