Ila K. Witty, 96, formerly of Rindge, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Witty was born on September 3, 1919 in the Township of Goreswamp, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Royal and Gertrude (O’Connell) Walker. Mrs. Witty received her education in Canada. She and her husband spent 8 years in Mason before moving to Rindge in 1964.
Mrs. Witty had retired in 1982 after serving as the secretary of Hampshire Country School for many years. She had also been employed at Precision Forms in Jaffrey.
Mrs. Witty had been a member of the Mason Congregational Church and the Rindge Woman’s Club. She adored her family as well as her beloved Montreal Canadians Hockey Team. She also enjoyed the loving company of her dogs, needlepoint and crocheting, and reading romance novels.
Mrs. Witty was predeceased by her husband Donald M. Witty in 2000 and by her son Carl E. Witty in 1997. Three of her sisters and two of her brothers also died earlier.
She is survived by her 2 daughters; Donna Lawler of Mason, New Hampshire and Valerie Copyak of Rigby, Idaho; a son John Witty of Sharon, New Hampshire; 3 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren; her brother John Walker of Richmond, Quebec, Canada, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Mrs. Witty’s request, there will be no calling hours at this time. A funeral service will be held in the Spring at the Mason Congregational Church and will be announced at that time. Burial will be next to her husband in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Mason.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Witty’s name to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446.
