Iver Olsen

January 17, 1913 — January 18, 2017

Iver Olsen, 104, of Troy, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, one day after his birthday.

Iver was born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 17, 1913, to his Norwegian parents, and he grew up speaking Norwegian along with his brother George and twin sisters, Elsie and Cecelia.

Iver served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

He moved to Long Island after his marriage to his first wife Audrey, who died in 1969. They had one son: Donald Olsen, who resides in Pennsylvania.

Iver was a devoted Boy Scout leader for many years and was proud of his contributions to Scouting.

Iver was active in his churches in Brooklyn, Long Island as well as at the First Church in Jaffrey, where he was a devoted member of the choir and served on many committees. In his professional life, he worked for Mutual of New York as a Certified Financial Analyst. He retired from this position to care for his first wife, Audrey, who died suddenly, shortly after he retired.

Iver moved to Troy, NH in 1972, with his second wife: Dorothy Reinertsen Olsen, whom he married in 1971. They celebrated 38 years of marriage before her death in 2009.

They had wonderful retirement years enjoying the beauty of Mount Monadnock from their property. He loved gardening, watching the stock market, reading and being a volunteer at church as well as a Trustee of the Troy Trust fund. Under his leadership the Trust Fund flourished.

Iver is survived by his son: Donald Olsen; two stepsons: Donald Reinertsen (Joan) and Gordon T Reinertsen (Janet); four Grandchildren: Sarah Reinertsen Raasch (Brooke) Peter Reinertsen, Jessica Reinertsen Clingman (David) and Megan Reinertsen Ross (Steve); four Great Grandchildren: Owen Clingman, Gunnar Clingman, Drew Ross and Maddie Ross; and a sister: Elsie Olsen of Brooklyn.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, for the incredible loving care they showered on Iver the last three years of his life.
