James Edward Hautanen, 69, of Jaffrey passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 after a brief illness while at the Cheshire Medical Center.
He was born on November 7, 1944 in Peterborough, NH, son of the late George and Yvonne (Ouellette) Hautanen. He was raised in Jaffrey, graduating from Conant High School in 1962. After graduation Jim enlisted in the Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga with Fighter Squadron 32 as a jet fighter mechanic/plane captain. After his honorable discharge, Jim returned home spending the rest of his life in the Jaffrey and Rindge areas.
Jim spent his entire life as a mechanic beginning his career at Korpi’s Mobil and then moving to Keene Chrysler & Plymouth. He retired in 2012 from Entegris Corp. in Billerica, MA. In the 1970s he spent time as a volunteer umpire for the Rindge Little League baseball and as an assistant Webelos pack leader. He enjoyed motorcycling, boating, camping, woodworking, his animals, and helping others.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Jacqueline (Dufault) Hautanen, his sons; Brent and Brad Hautanen, his step sons; Chris, Corey, and John Bartlett, his brother; William Hautanen, and numerous grandchildren.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, his family would prefer that donations in his name be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Rd., Swanzey, NH 03446 or by visiting www.monadnockhumanesociety.org.
