JEAN IDA (McLOUTH) MATHEWSON, 99, died April 24, 2007 at the Good Shephard Healthcare Center in Jaffrey after a period of failing health.
She was born on February 8, 1908 in Hart, Michigan, daughter of the late James Lyman McLouth and Lucella A. Pitts.
Mrs. Mathewson graduated from Hart High School and continued her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan and Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Mrs. Mathewson began teaching in Alma, Michigan and taught for many years. It was there that she met her husband, Philip Hoyt Mathewson. They married in 1937 in Hart, Michigan and moved to Vermont where she taught grade school students for many years in both Middlesex and Montpelier, Vermont. She was very active in Gray Ladies in Montpelier and in Lyndon, Vermont.
Mrs. Mathewson was preceded in death by her husband Philip who died on March 22, 2004.
Family members include her daughter Jeanine Ida Mathewson, who married Bill V. Stringfellow in 1960. He is now deceased. They had two sons, Philip Jeffrey Stringfellow who lives in Texas with his wife Jodi and their 2 children, Emily and Eric; and James Scott Stringfellow who married his wife Tawn and lives in Boise, Idaho with their children Genesee and Gregory. Mrs. Mathewson is also survived by her son Owen Danforth Mathewson, who married Linda Jean Stickney, they live in Hancock where they raised their six children, Sue Rugg, Meigra Jean Ramus, Mark S. Mathewson, Philip H. Mathewson, II, Sarah E. Mathewson and Ozias D. Mathewson, III.
At Mrs. Mathewson'™s request, there will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of her family.
