John Homer Adams, 92, of Peterborough, NH, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on April 11, 2023.
John was born on March 21, 1931, in Newport News, VA to the late Otto and Glenna (Hunter) Adams. After graduating from Warwick High School in 1948, he went on to attend Lynchburg College before enlisting in the United States Navy in June of 1949. John married his beloved wife June (Jones) Adams on July 27, 1949. Together they lived in various places over the years while raising their four children, including Fredericksburg, VA, Hickory, NC, Huntington, NY, Ridgewood, NJ, Wellesley, MA, Stoddard, NH, and finally Peterborough, NH.
Throughout his professional career, John worked in sales and engineering in the paper industry, retiring from International Paper as Northeast Regional Sales Manager. He was a Worshipful Master and a 33-degree Mason, and an active member of the Episcopal Church throughout his life, serving as Deacon at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Wellesley, MA. Following retirement, John lived on Island Pond in Stoddard, NH.
John was very charitable throughout his life, volunteering his time and contributions to the Monadnock Community Hospital, Windy Row Learning Center, Crotched Mountain Foundation, and various charities supported by the Masons. In his free time, John loved supporting all New England Sports teams, especially the New England Patriots. He was an avid golfer, an angler, a boating enthusiast, cross country skier and loved taking walks and being outdoors. He was an animal lover and had many pets throughout the years, including his beloved cat and end-of-life companion, Ollie.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, June Adams, and daughter Valerie (Adams) Ross.
He will be forever missed by his family, sons John H. Adams II and wife Joanne of Little Silver, NJ, and D. Hunter Adams and wife Kimberly of Framingham, MA; daughter Susan Adams LeClair and husband Michael of Peterborough, NH; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to his funeral service on Thursday, April 20 at 1:00 PM, held outdoors by the Contoocook River behind Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River St., Jaffrey, NH.
