John Dexter Field, 87, of Jaffrey, NH died peacefully on Monday morning, March 22, 2021 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a period of failing health.
He was born in Jaffrey, NH on January 17, 1934, the son of the late John W and Agnes M (Baldwin) Field. He left High School before graduation to join the US Army. After an honorable discharge from the 11th Airborne Division, he returned to Jaffrey and completed his studies at Conant High School. He was a lifelong resident of Jaffrey.
He was a dedicated and hard worker, often holding more than one job. He had worked at WW Cross for 13 years as well as for New England Telephone for over 26 years before his retirement.
He married Eang Thiv in Jaffrey on August 3, 2001.
When not working one of his many jobs, he was often found napping. He was also a practical joker, always ready with a quip or comment. He was more often than not in a positive mood, and enjoyed calling BINGO at the VFW, of which he was a longtime member. He also achieved a 3rd Degree within the Knights of Columbus, Jaffrey Council # 8544. He regularly took part in their annual Christmas Tree sales.
John is survived by his wife of almost 20 years: Eang (Thiv) Field of Jaffrey; his son: Nelson Field of Jaffrey; two sisters: Agnes Hautanen and her husband Bill of Jaffrey, and Alice Kymalainen of Florida; his brother Danny Field and his wife Sherry of Fitzwilliam, as well as his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 3 siblings: Francis Field, Philomena LaBarge and Mary Delaney.
A walk-through visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Those attending will be required to adhere to current guidelines by wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday March 30, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 87 Main Street, Jaffrey. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery later in the spring.
