Johnnie W. Britton, a veteran of Vietnam War and longtime resident of New Ipswich, NH, passed away on December 15, 2021. John was born February 28, 1936, to John and Ruby Britton in San Bernardino, CA. After graduating from Pacific High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was later commissioned as an Officer through the Officer Candidate School. In 1988, John retired from Active-Duty Army at the rank of Colonel.
It is during his service to our great nation that he met the love of his life, Jay Eckhardt, and made her his bride. Army life took them all around the world beginning in Iran as well as places like Fort Benning GA, Fort Riley, KS, and concluded in Newport, RI. It is also during this time of service that their Family grew by two boys, John and Jeff.
After retirement from the US Army, he began his second career as a Professor in the Business Department at Salve Regina University, in Newport, RI. After 15 years of teaching, John retired from full time work and became an active member in Masonic activities across the local NH area. During his retirement time, he enjoyed traveling to see his Family and Friends.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Jay. He's survived by his sons John Britton of Denver CO and COL Jeff Britton and his wife Mary of Bettendorf, IA, as well as four grandchildren SSGT Jeffrey Britton of Kadena AFB - Japan, Keegan, Kelsey and Tyler Britton all of Pagosa Springs, CO.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, (US Rte. 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 pm in the funeral home chapel.
A later date is still to be established for his interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
