Jon G. Reenstierna, 75, of Temple died Tuesday August 12, 2014 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, surrounded by his family, following a year long battle with colon cancer.
He was born May 30, 1939 in Leominster, MA son of the late Thure L. and Helen (Carroll) Reenstierna.
His formative years were spent in Maynard MA. His family moved to Rindge when Jon was ten years old. He had attended Conant High School in Jaffrey and continued to live in Jaffrey until moving to Temple in 2005.
Most of his working career was spent as a diesel mechanic. Jon worked many years at Red’s Inc. in Jaffrey both as a mechanic and also hauling fuel.
Jon also has worked for Catch Basin Cleaners in Peterborough, Van Dyke Construction and Fogg’s Energy both in Rindge.
Most recently, up until three weeks before his death he was an assembler at Wal-Mart in Rindge.
Jon loved fishing, doing landscaping and camping. His family stated that he was a contributor to the Native American Community via his frequent trips to Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
He cherished his time spent with family, especially his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters Liane Emond of Jaffrey, Lori Solovei and her husband Brian of Sharon; his son Lance Reenstierna of Medford MA; his brother James Reenstierna and his wife Diane of Jaffrey; his granddaughter Courtney Emond of Jaffrey; grandson Sean Solovei of Sharon; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Ellen (Burgoyne) Reenstierna in 1989; his son Dean Reenstierna in 1968 and his sister Carole S. Sullivan in 2005.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attended calling hours on Wednesday August 20, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 3:00PM.
Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps , pastor of St. Patrick Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions in Jon’s name be made to Hospice at HCS, 45 Main Street, Suite 316, P.O. Box 496 in Peterborough.
