Joseph A. Lafreniere, 82, died peacefully on November 21, 2021 at the Pheasant Wood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Peterborough.
He was born in Rindge on February 15, 1939, he was the youngest child of the late Walter and Lillian (Burbee) Lafreniere. After school, Joe served honorably with the United States Army for two years before returning and making Jaffrey his home. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion
He had worked for many years as a truck driver for Belletete’s in Jaffrey and had also served on Jaffrey’s Police Department and Fire Department. You could find Joe hunting in the fall and riding his motorcycle whenever he could. He also found great pleasure visiting with friends and watching westerns and NASCAR on TV.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Helen Burgoyne Smith, and by his siblings, Forrest Burbee, Archie Lafreniere, Walter Lafreniere, Jr., Frances (Jake) Lafreniere, Elizabeth Champney, and Barbara Gagnon.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (Penney) Lafreniere; his children: Tim Lafreniere of Jaffrey, Valerie Smoak of Bonire GA, Penny Hood of Jaffrey, Scott Hood of Oregon, his grandchildren, Nakia Evans of Dublin, NH, Shane Lafreniere of North Brookfield, MA, Riley Patterson of Bonire, GA, and Charley Barry of Jaffrey, NH; and by his great-grandchildren, Jade Patterson and Korbyn Barry, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the John Humiston American Legion Hall, 20 Webster Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Military Honors will follow and burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
