It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Dr. Joseph Hill of Rindge, NH, on May 20, 2022.
Joe was a graduate of The Taft School and Tufts University and received his MD from the University of Rochester. He completed his internship and residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock and was one of the first in the country to become board-certified in vascular surgery.
After serving in an evacuation hospital in Vietnam, he settled in the greater Fitchburg/Leominster area for over 30 years, embracing noninvasive procedures in addition to surgery. He was the subject in an Atlantic Monthly article entitled " A Surgeon’s Day", which was later republished by Reader’s Digest.
Joe served as chairman of the Ashburnham Community Church and dedicated 45+ years to Cushing Academy as Board President and later as Trustee Emeritus. He also served on the Rindge, NH zoning board.
Following retirement, Joe enjoyed cooking, sailing, reading, playing chess, and giant (but gentle) slobbering dogs. Joe will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his willingness to help others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joseph’s name to the Animal Rescue League of NH, 545 Route 101 Bedford NH, 03110, 603-472-3647, https://www.rescueleague.org.
