Joseph F. ‘Jake’ Jacobetz, 94, of Jaffrey died Friday, January 02, 2015 at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene after a period of failing health.
He was born on February 26, 1920 in Passaic, NJ, son of the late Joseph and Julia (Molnar) Jacobetz.
He was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford, NJ and attended Columbia University majoring in Chemistry.
On September 7, 1944 he married the former Lucette Terrat at St. Augustine’s R.C. Church in Ocean City N.J. She predeceased Jake on October 21, 2006
Mr. Jacobetz was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from July 3rd, 1944 to February 8th, 1946. A Photographic Specialist, he served in the Pacific Arena and received the Pacific Theatre and Victory Medals.
He was employed as a chemist for Tenneco Chemicals in 1941 and then served as Corporate Director of Safety until 1971. He came to Lock Haven, PA with American Aniline in 1971 as the Corporate Director of Safety and Environmental Services. He retired in 1985 and worked as an independent health and safety consultant until 1997.
He has been a resident of Jaffrey since 1997 and had previously lived in Lock Haven, PA where he and his wife were active parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church for more than 20 years. Since residing in Jaffrey he has been a communicant of St. Patrick Church and was a member and treasurer of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Monadnock Council 8544 and a Sir Knight with Saint Patrick Assembly 2129.
Jake enjoyed golf and was a past member of the Clinton Country Club, Belle Springs Golf Club and the Monadnock Country Club. As a Certified Safety Professional, he held many professional honors and awards. He had also enjoyed serving in his communities as a BSA District Scout Commissioner, a treasurer in Kiwanis, and as a devout catholic.
Jake is survived by two sons, Michael J. Jacobetz of Avondale, PA and Richard G. Jacobetz of Fitzwilliam; three grandchildren, Jody, Jennifer and Nicholas, and a great-granddaughter Sophie.
At Jake’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 20 Plantation Drive, Jaffrey or to St. Patrick School, 70 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.
