Joseph L. G. Theriault

November 2, 1924 — April 3, 2020

Joseph L. G. ‘George’ Theriault, 95, of Rindge, NH and formerly of Stoneham, MA, died peacefully at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center after a period of failing health.

He was born on November 2, 1924 in Cambridge, MA, a son of the late Louis G. and Esther (Arseneau) Theriault. He was raised and educated locally, and served honorably in the US Army, attaining the rank of Corporal and serving as a Topographer in the European and Middle Eastern Theaters during World War II.

After his honorable service, George worked as a salesman, cabinet maker, teacher and locksmith throughout the Boston area.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as volunteering with the local Boy Scout troop and Explorer Post. George was a 3rd order Franciscan in Methuen, MA, and enjoyed Rosary making and cooking.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Cosgrove-Anderson in 2007 and his son Michael Theriault in 1952.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Pauline (Bussieres) Theriault, of Rindge, NH; his children; Dennis Theriault of Haverhill, MA, Marie Sherman & long time partner Tom Wakefield of Groveland, MA, Pauline Kearns and her husband Michael of Clarkson, MI, and Gizelle Grover and her husband Arthur of Rindge, NH; his 10 grandchildren, Tim Cosgrove, Nicole Cosgrove-Dufresne, Charles Anderson, Jason Theriault, Edward Theriault, Julia Kearns Person, Katelyn Anne Kearns, Alicia Grover Farinoli, Amanda Grover LeBlanc, and Justin Grover; his brother, Charles Theriault of Wilmington, MA; and greatly loved and missed by his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date, and will be announced.

A chapel service with military honors will also eventually be held at the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans’ Cemetery, in Winchendon, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George’s name to the Mary Immaculate Nursing & Restorative Center, 172 Lawrence Street, Lawrence, MA 01841
