Frank R. Burns, Jr. died March 28, 2011 in Peterborough, NH.
He was born on February 12, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa to Frank R. Burns, Sr and Mae Hammond Burns. A graduate of Roosevelt High School and Grinnell College, Frank served three and a half years in the Air
Corps during World War II before joining his father in the Blue Line Moving and Storage Company in Des Moines, Iowa.
He served as President of the National Furniture Warehousemens Association and was very active in the community, receiving the Des Moines Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award. He served as President of the Tall Corn Council of the Boy Scouts, President of the Des Moines Rotary Club, President of the Des Moines Taxpayers Association, President of the Des Moines Club and President of Red Cross. He was also very active in Plymouth Congregational Church holding many positions including President of Plymouth Place for retired people.
Frank and Virginia Cissie Conine were married on December 20, 1944. They were married for 63 years and loved to travel visiting China, Japan, Russia, Africa and many other places. Frank was well known for his post-trip slide shows and framed photographs (he did his own darkroom work and made his own frames).
Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Burns Cadot of Hancock, New Hampshire, his son, Frank Randy Burns III of St Louis, Missouri, his son-in-law, James Fontanini of Des Moines, Iowa, and three grandchildren, Virginia Page Cadot and her husband, Khalid Fatimi of New York City, Aubrie Fontanini of Colorado and Chloe Fontanini of Des Moines, Iowa.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Cissie and his daughter, Patricia Burns Fontanini.
Frank moved to Pheasant Wood Care and Rehab Center in Peterborough, NH in 2010 to be near his daughter, Cindy.
There will be a private funeral service at the convenience of the family in Des Moines, Iowa.
