Joseph Clifton Conley, Jr., 72, of Alder Court in Jaffrey, died Saturday April 21, 2012 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester following a long illness. “Cliff” was born June 13, 1939 in Lynn MA., son of Joseph C. and Virginia ( Thomas) Conley. He was an active member of the Lakeside Methodist Church in Lynn. “Cliff” was a 1956 graduate of Lynn English High School and a 1958 graduate of Essex Agricultural Technical Institute. He also attended Rutgers University. “Cliff” served with the United States Navy and was an auxiliary member of VFW Post #5613 of Jaffrey. He moved to Jaffrey in 1958 and worked for Up-Land Farms Orchards in Peterborough. He later was employed at New Hampshire Ball Bearing Co., in Peterborough and then he began he career as produce manager first at the Grand Union in Peterborough, later at the IGA in Winchendon and then for Market Basket stores in Fitchburg, MA and then at the Rindge NH store until health issues forced his retirement. Cliff was a member of the Jaffrey Rod Gun Club and was active with the annual Cannon Shoots. He enjoyed his Sunday morning cribbage group at the Jaffrey Fire Station. He was an avid gardener and also was a coin collector, and he loved the ocean. Survivors include his mother Virginia Conley of Peabody, MA.; his daughters Pam of Keene,NH, Karen and her partner John of Gardner MA; his sons Scott and wife Diana of Troy NH, Steven and his partner Sara of Westminster, MA; his brothers David and wife Brenda of Frisco, NC, Robert and his partner Sherill of Lynnfield, MA; sisters Joan and husband John of North Andover,MA, Elizabeth and husband Darren of Duxbury, MA, Cynthia and husband Espen of Lincoln, MA; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 1992.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The family has requested that memorial contributions, for those who wish, may be made to the Jaffrey Rindge Memorial Ambulance Fund, Post Office Box 107 , Jaffrey NH 03452.
Friends and family are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey on Monday April 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00PM.
A Memorial service will be held immediately following at 7:00PM.
