LAWRENCE E. DONOVAN, Jr., 83, of Jennifer Lane in Jaffrey died Saturday October 25, 2008 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester following a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.

He was born December 28, 1924 in Boston MA, son of the late Lawrence E. and Florence J. (Bangs) Donovan.
He attended schools in Carlisle and Concord MA where he was a member of the football team and orchestra.
He graduated from Concord High School in 1942.

During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended a number of training schools as well as having served in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean theaters.
After serving on the U.S.S. General O.H. Ernst AP133, he was discharged in December of 1945 as a Machinist Mate 1st Class. He then joined the inactive Naval Reserve until July 30, 1948 when he reenlisted and joined the U.S.S. Desmoines CA134 and served with the 6th Fleet.

Following the military he returned to school and graduated from the Lincoln Institute of Northeastern University on June 17, 1956 with an Associates degree in Electronic Engineering, and from Northeastern School of Business with a BBA in Engineering Management in 1959.

Mr. Donovan had been employed by Raytheon, American Machinery Foundry, Clevite Control Co., Honeywell, and Data General Corp.

He enjoyed bicycling, photography, dancing and reading.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, whom he has known since the fifth grade, Bernice Bunny (Gallagher-Booth) Donovan of Jaffrey; eight daughters Anne Reiter of Myrtle Beach, SC, Katherine Rogalski and Elizabeth Betsy Donovan both of Marlborough NH, Virginia Lapham of Quemado, NM, Sandra May of Boynton Beach FL, Donna Morrison of Westwood, MA, Barbara Bullard of Woodsville NH and Mary Cornelia of Conyers GA; four sons Lawrence E. Donovan III of Johnson City TN, Robert Chip Donovan of Holliston, MA, Glenn Donovan of Jaffrey NH, Dana Donovan of Fuquay Varina, NC.; 26 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Harold H. Donovan of Sebastian FL; several nieces and nephews. Brothers John L. Donovan and Frederick H. Donovan died earlier.

Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.

As per his request, there will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Nov. 1, 2008 at 10:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev Wilfred Deschamps, pastor, will officiate.
