JULIA M. POODIACK, 91, formerly of East Mountain Road in Peterborough, died Saturday July 11, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Jaffrey.
She was born May 13, 1918 in Jaffrey, daughter of the late John D. and Elizabeth (Rochford) Heil.
She was a 1936 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey.
Mrs Poodiack worked as a Practical Nurse at Scott Farrar Home and also Monadnock Manor both in Peterborough. She also did private duty nursing for several Peterborough area families, including the Belcher family and Peirre Harrang. She had been a resident of Peterborough from May of 1959 until moving to Jaffrey in 2005.
She loved to read and enjoyed gardening when she was younger. She would feed the birds and enjoyed the wildlife that came to her windows. She cooked for family and friends but her most cherished time was that spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She married Frank J. Poodiack on May 13, 1937; he died June 18, 1994 following fifty seven years of marriage.
Survivors include her son James Poodiack and his wife Diana of The Villages in Florida; her daughter with whom she had lived for the past four years, Betty Burgoyne and her husband Ray of Jaffrey; four grandchildren James Poodiack Jr and wife Liana of Bennington NH, Lisa Gilbo also of Bennington, Suzanne Burgoyne of Jaffrey, Raymond Burgoyne and wife Tammy of Raleigh, NC; five great grandchildren Robert Gilbo of Westmoreland NH, Travis and Kyle Poodiack both of Bennington, Jennifer and Melissa Burgoyne both of Raleigh NC; her sister Elizabeth Gladu of Westford MA; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to he parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Viola Murphy and her three brothers, John, Bernard and David Heil.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Peterborough Fire and Rescue, Summer Street, Peterborough NH 03458 or to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, P.O. Box 107, Jaffrey NH 03452.
Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, High Street, Peterborough.
Family and friends are warmly invited to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 south) in Jaffrey on Tuesday July 14, from 6:00 to 8:00PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00AM in St.Peters Church of the Devine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine Street in Peterborough. Rev Gerald Belanger, pastor, will officiate.
