Katherine ‘Katie’ Olson, 73, of Jaffrey, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.
Katie was born May 17th, 1942 in Peterborough, NH, daughter of the late Edward and Priscilla (Baird) Allord. Her father died in Germany while serving in WWII and Katie was raised in Jaffrey by David Ely after he married her mother.
Katie was a 1960 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey, and had attended Moorpark College in California as well as the Tuck School of Business in Hanover, NH. She had worked locally at Village Savings Bank and later at CFX Bank. Katie had previously been a real estate broker and owned and operated Hearthside Homes in Derry, NH. Katie was perhaps better known for her ‘Kid Taxi’ service or for her love of antiques, and for her service to Jaffrey on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. She was always there for her grandchildren and if there was anyone you could label as an official Conant Booster, it was Katie – especially when it came to basketball.
Katie was also very active in town as an auxiliary member of both the VFW Memorial Post #5613 and the John Humiston Post #11 in Jaffrey. She was a member of the American WWII Orphans Network and had served on the boards of Monadnock Habitat for Humanity and the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce.
Katie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard H. Olson, Sr. of Jaffrey; her daughter Kelly Bergeron of Jaffrey; her 3 sons, Richard H. Olson, Jr. of Manchester, Robert Olson of Jaffrey, and Jonathan ‘Jay’ Olson of Milford; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Priscilla Casey of Jaffrey; her brother Edward Ely of Manchester, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Katie was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Moore on November 17, 2010.
